Knowledge about anti-glare window film for your house
Anti-glare window film is produced from “
polyester” which is clear, flat, sticky, durable, flexible, low humidity absorption and durable both in high and low temperature. The color shade and darkness/lightness we see on the film is caused by adding colors, the high quality anti-glare film will have the color fuse into the material (not only coating on the surface or blending with the glue) so that it is long-time adhesive without color fade after long time use

How anti-glare window films on your house prevent heat and UV?
We always feel that the darker window film, the better it can prevent heat but in reality, the film color’s main duty is “not to preventing the heat from sunlight and UV directly”. However, this feature of the film will be existed only from metal or ceramic coating in order to help reflecting heat (ceramic coating film will be clearer and less reflecting than metal coating film) including added some UV protection substances into the film material. Therefore, dark color films are not always good at heat or UV protection

What should be a good quality anti-glare window film for the house?
1) Come up with good value of sunlight protection whether it is VLT, VLR, UV protection, IRR, TSER including SHGC ,all these measurement should be from sunlight testing not the spotlight because the light, infrared and UV which come from these 2 origins will be different , means the film with high % of spotlight protection does not mean that it can prevent well from sunlight

2) High performance glue both each layers’ glue and the one with adhere the window should be thin, clear, sticky, durable to temperature and changing weather, well-adhere to the window without bubble, peeling off, changing color over time besides, once peeling off the glue should be on the film not on the glass
3) Anti-scratch because polyester material is easy to cause the scratch like cat fur so a good anti-glare film should have anti-scratch coating on its surface for its beauty and durability
4) Suitable film thickness normal anti-glare film for accommodation (not safety film) the standard thickness will be 1.5 mil., which is not too thick and easy-installed
How to select a good yet suitable window house film?
1) Consider film feature to match your need easy to say is to choose your wanted dark/light color film or checking on each model’s Visible light transmission (VLT) which will effect on glare reduction, privacy, visibility on outside view then, checking Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) rate. For the films with color, darkness, clearness close to each other , mostly the one which is better on light reflecting (seems like the mirror when seeing from outside) will be better at heat reduction because it contained more metal coating (not included ceramic coating which is better on heat rejection but is less able to reflect the light than metal coating film) However, if the house owner want to focus specially on heat reduction, they may select the film which is guaranteed by energy efficiency saving label no.5*
*Thailand standard for anti-glare window film testing from department of energy by using SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) , the result need to be less than or equal 0.45

2) Purpose of usage and location
such as downstairs room need to obscure the view thus you need to install dark film, a west side room which is facing sunlight should install glare reduction and high heat reduction film, view room for day and night must have heat reduction ability thus to use clear film with 40% Visible light transmission (VLT) and high heat rejection etc. (For condominium always have terms about anti-glare window film e.g. tint level, color, reflection which you must check first with juristic person before purchasing film)

3) Film brand and reliable shop the factory need to be up to the standard, the importer should have a long time reputation for selling good price and good quality product and for shop, we suggest you to always buy from the authorized shop which you can notice from the banner in front of the shop/ certificate/warranty card or directly ask from the film company
4) High skill installer should have the ability to trim the film precisely to fit the rubber edge without causing scratch on the glass including damaging the glass rubber edge because when it happens even you use silicone to fix it, it can still effect to leaking in long time use (you should use only necessary amount of silicone e.g. in case you need to remove the old silicone or worn-out silicone etc.)
Photo: to cut the film just fit to window edge is very important matter which will affect the quality and usage thus, require high skilled technician to do it
you can see that selecting a film for your house and to suit your requirement though, it is not difficult but there are so many details the house owner must be take care of in order for long term efficiency. Apart from selecting the right quality and reliable dealer, you still need to check various features (e.g. VLT, VLR, UV protection, TSER etc.) to suit the usage including high skilled technician selection to avoid poor quality installation problem
